Your Publishing Pathway

Abundance Books offers two types of publishing contracts:

Traditional Contract
This is where no costs are incurred by the author and the whole cost for producing, publishing, and marketing the work is covered by Abundance Books. We publish three to five traditional books per year and reserve 75% of our slots for emerging authors. Our quota for 2024 is filled, and we are accepting proposals for 2025 and 2026.

Partnership Publishing Contract
This is not a pay to publish opportunity. At Abundance Books, all manuscripts go through the same process of proposal and vetting regardless of the type of contract offered. As a small publishing company, we simply do not have the budget to publish every worthy manuscript, so we offer a limited number of partnership opportunities where the author and the publisher share the up-front costs.

The process for both contract types begins with a proposal. From there we will determine if we can offer a traditional or partnership contract or if your manuscript or your platform needs additional work before you are ready. Send a query letter to books@abundance-books.com.

Editing

Editing is a process, not an event. To make your manuscript the best it can be, it needs layers of editing. Each builds upon the other to deliver your most meaningful message.

Developmental editing is a phase in the book publishing process where we work with you to resolve “big picture” issues in your manuscript: structure, form, plot, and character. Because the focus is on wider story elements, this type of editing normally won’t address sentence-level errors such as punctuation and grammar, and typos. As we help you work through your manuscript, we keep your target audience and message goals in mind and assess your work in relation to industry standards for your genre. Once your manuscript has gone through the developmental editing process, it is ready for copy editing.

Copy editing will address grammatical or punctuation errors, incorrect facts, anomalies, inconsistencies, and glaring typos. Overall, the purpose of copy editing is to ensure that the language supports your intended message — while also creating the most readable version of your book.

Proofreading is the final stage of the editing process. We ensure your book is ready to hit the presses. The proofreader will double-check everything. They’ll make sure your book is free from spelling mistakes, grammatical errors, and other issues that could spoil a reader’s enjoyment of your writing.

Coaching

We offer coaching and mentoring for writers at all stages of their writing journeys, from beginners to established, published professionals. Even if you are not publishing through Abundance Books, we can help you reach your goals. Whether you are looking to finish your first book, develop as a poet, write a screenplay or get articles published in the press, we can help. We specialize in career development for those who wish to complete their projects, develop professional habits, and get their work published.
